This week the sun looks like it could be coming out to play here in the UK, finally!

Last week I shared 7 tips to get your garden ready for summer, however, I’m well aware that the UK weather can change in an instant.

So here are 4 simple ideas to get your living room ready for summer so no matter what the weather is like outside, inside your home it will always feels like summer.

Add colour

Winter is all about comfort and tends to be very dark. Summer, on the other hand, is all about bright colours.

Think bright orange, hot pink, turquoise or lime green.

There are many ways to add colour to your living room.

If you have cash to splash, of course, you can add a new coat of paint to the walls, or add some wallpaper to create a feature wall. You can even purchase a new sofa.

Add new accessories

A more affordable and less permanent option than repainting your living room is to add bright coloured accessories.

You could upcycle some of your existing furniture and accessories or check out a local charity shop such as Oxfam or your local market or car boot sale.

Add artwork to walls and decorative statement pieces to your tables or shelving.

Keep in mind that glass, transparent and mirrored items will reflect light and create an increased sense of space.

Change soft furnishings

Replace heavy curtains with voile curtains or blinds to ensure the living room feels summery and lets lots of light in.

If you have dark furniture and replacing it is not affordable, or necessary, you can use a slipcover to cover your sofa and a simple tablecloth to brighten a dark table.

Change your cushions covers for bold accent colours, flower designs or geometric patterns.

Use natural fibres such as cotton, linen and silks and add texture using baskets, wicker or rope, which can help to create a beachy nautical summer vibe.

Bring the outdoors inside

Place vases of fresh seasonal flowers and plants in brightly coloured pots, including window boxes.

You could also consider installing a vertical garden in your living room as a unique way of bringing the outdoors inside. You can display plants, flowers or even grow your own herbs.

Additionally, add summer scents to your living room by choosing candles and diffusers with citrus and floral scents.

With these 4 simple ideas, there’s no need to let the weather get you down as inside your home it will always feel like summer.

As always, Pinterest is full of inspiration for ways you can incorporate the 4 simple ideas mentioned above.
